If choices need to be made regarding type of treatment, the choices must be presented to and made by the breeder unless emergency treatment is required. Breeders will request transportation of the dog when necessary. Breeder will give guardians at least a 2 day notice when transportation is necessary. Breeders will visit the guardian home a minimum of 1 time per year. She will remain with you throughout her pregnancy and come back to us a week prior to her due date and until the puppies are weaned around 7 wks. Once she has had 3-4 litters you will have her spayed and she will retire with you at no additional fee. The Guardian program allows for you to have a puppy, or adolescent/adult breeding dog for just a fraction of the price. This puppy or dog is part of your family forever, while the breeding rights (3-4 litters) are retained by Paw Paw Puppy Tales for a short-term amount of time. Once this dog has completed his/her breeding career, he/she will be spayed or neutered at our expense.

If you are receiving a Guardian program Puppy, we ask that you send us monthly photos and updates during the first year so that we can watch him/her develop. The cost of a guardian dog/puppy requires a deposit set by us, which is usually half the pet price. The dog’s personality and temperament should also be considered when choosing a guardian home. A high-energy dog will need a family that is active and can provide the dog with plenty of exercise. It is important that the guardian home can provide the dog with the kind of environment that will allow the dog to thrive. We will whelp and raise the pups and mom will come back home when the pups are between 7 and 8 weeks old. After retirement the female will be spayed by our vet, and continue to live the remainder of her life with her guardian family. A week before her due date she would come back to our home to deliver, raise, and wean her puppies for 6-7 weeks. We pay for all pregnancy-related veterinary expenses and testing.

The male dog is not allowed to breed with other dogs aside from those determined by Blue Bay Labradoodles. Following the final litter, the dog will be spayed at our expense and full ownership will be transferred over to the Guardian Family. Often, there is a deposit to ensure commitment by the GH and then reimbursed over the time of the breeding career. The deposit also can be reimbursed at the end of the breeding career. The puppy/dog remains the property of the breeder until the end of the breeding career and then become the Guardian Home’s dog forever after. Typically at the age of 6 years, the dog then becomes part of the forever home. If you are a guardian for a female dog, you must be willing to drop her off for 1-2 weeks while she is bred and then pick her up after.
